Yahoo! Site Explorer Reports Less Number Of Links

For past four to five days, the number of backlinks have been drastically reduced, say around 40% of links are lost. Many suffers from same issue and they were discussed in some popular forums too.

On checking yahoo suggestion board, we came to know that the yahoo team is working with the Bing team over this sudden drop down of backlink count, to bring it all back to order.

Yahoo Site Explorer product manager Hemant Minocha explained as

“We are working with the Microsoft team to ensure that webmasters can continue to use Yahoo! Site Explorer to view inlinks (a.k.a backlinks) to a given webpage or a website and to further be able to export them as CSV if desired. Please note that this functionality will be available only through the Site Explorer UI and not through the Webservices API.”

And also Vanessa Fox already blogged about this issue in Search Engine Land.

For most webmasters Yahoo site explorer is the real source for backlink analysis and its a ultimate source for competitor analysis as well. It will be great loss if SEO lose the link data from site explorer. Hope that it will stay alive for the sake of backlink analysis & SEO.

Here I list out other resources alternatives to Yahoo! Site Explorer:
