One of the important and unavoidable feature on every Blog are Comments. Blog comments are the lifeblood of a blog. A Blog is not worthy unless it has valuable comments. Blog comments do a lot of good things for your blog. People who leave comments on your blog can also leave links to other blogs or websites or their own blogs. Blog Comments engage your readers, and help your Internet business. Blog comments make your blog more interactive and social by allowing readers to join in the conversation. Unfortunately most blogs do not receive any comments.

Here are some ways to encourage more comments on your blog:

  • Make it Easy to Comment

People rarely comment on the blogs which requires login before making a comment. Registration is a hurdle you put in front of your readers to comment on your post. The reason may be their laziness or maybe they worry about giving out their personal details. So keep your comments section as simple as possible.

  • Reward the comments

Incentives are a great way to start getting comments and attracting more people to your blog. Make your links “do follow” and install Top Commentators plugin to increase the  visibility of the people who comment most. Another way to reward your commentators is to link up with them on social networks and promote their posts. If possible highlighting them in other posts that you write.

  • Install CommentLuv Plugin

CommentLuv is a plugin that uses RSS feeds to display a link to the commentator’s last post. This plugin helps to give something back to every single commentator as well as entice them to come back and visit more often by adding a link to their last blog post at the end of their comment.

  • Moderate/Delete the Comments

Active moderation should be applied to all blog comments. You have to find the spammers and also serve to improve the quality of other contributions. Don’t hesitate to delete spamming comments. You can also install spam filter plugin on your blog to moderate comments.

  • End your blog post with a Question

When you ask a question at the end of your post, your readers are much more likely to comment. For example you can ask questions like

    1. What do you think?
    2. What are some of the things you’ve tried?
    3. Is your experience the same as ours?
  • Reply to the comments you receive

Be sure you answer each commenter, this is a great way to get more blog comments. Your answers may stimulate more questions. You can reply to them by typing a comment that starts with @theirName. To post a direct response comment, you can also install Brian’s Threaded Comments plugin.

  • Welcome your new visitors

New visitors aren’t familiar with you or your blog. You can welcome your new visitors by installing the What Would Seth Godin Do plugin. This WordPress plugin displays a small box above blog posts inviting new visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed . It is easy to say hello to new visitors and encourage them to contribute their comments with the help of this plugin.

  • Follow up on trackbacks

Trackbacks help you to build relationships with other bloggers as well as to drive new traffic to your blog. When someone links to you from one of their posts, they are obviously reading your blog. Therefore, return the favor by reading some of the latest posts and leaving your thoughts. It is a great way to create actual relationships with other bloggers.

  • Make it easy to directly contact you

By adding a contact form to your blog, you can make it easy for your visitors to contact you.

  • Let readers rate your content

Adding a rating system is a great way to encourage your readers to participate. Allow your readers to rate each of your posts on a scale from 0 to 5 by installing WP-PostRatings plugin . If there are large number of comments, it can be difficult to read. If readers can vote on each comment, this does allow the more popular comments to be viewed.

Interesting post!! Comments should be genuine and unique. Many users post fake or spamming comments just for promotional purpose. This should not be done on any blogs.

    Great love it!

But You forgot the keywordluv plugin, which lets commenters use keywords by adding ‘@’ after their name. This is a great incentive too!
